Dr. Jill’s Spinach Berry Smoothie Recipe

Don’t skip breakfast! Eating first thing in the morning has a powerful effect on jump starting your metabolism.  If you don’t eat within two hours of waking, your metabolism will slow down to conserve energy. Start the day right with this nutrient packed Spinach Berry Smoothie!

This delicious smoothie is dairy-free and full of nourishing ingredients. Use water for a lower calorie option OR ½ water and ½ coconut milk. Coconut milk is a healthy and delicious dairy-free and soy-free alternative to milk. For protein, I recommend 1 scoop of Thorne Research Vegalite Vanilla protein (Use physician code = HCP1004064 to order!). VegaLite is a vegan-friendly protein powder and is also gluten-free, soy-free, and dairy-free!

Eating fruits and vegetables is the best way to prevent cancer, heart disease, and diabetes. They are excellent sources of vitamins, minerals and fiber essential for health. In addition, they contain a class of nutrients called phytonutrients that are important cancer fighters. If you’re not a fan of eating raw or cooked vegetables, blend them with delicious fruit into a smoothie instead!

Here are some of the Spinach Berry Smoothie ingredients’ health benefits…

  • Kale and Spinach and other leafy greens pack a powerful punch and work great in smoothies! These leafy greens can help cleanse your body and eliminate toxic substances that may be detrimental to your health. They are loaded with natural levels of folate that your body can easily process. Vitamin B12 and folate work together to keep your brain and nervous system healthy. They are also rich sources of Vitamin A, which boosts your immune system too!
  • Chia seeds are a great source of fiber. Fiber is filling, good for healthy bowel function and aids in producing short chain fatty acids (SCFAs) to feed your good bacteria. The large amounts of omega-3 fatty acids in chia seeds are helpful in soothing the inflammation in the digestive system and promote better absorption of nutrients. With such a great amount of nutrition in so every little seed, there is little wonder why chia seeds are ranked highly among nature’s super foods!
  • Blueberries contain anthocyanin and other antioxidants known to guard against Alzheimer’s and other neurological diseases. A low calorie fruit which does wonders for you health is just what your body needs. With their high antioxidant capability, blueberries rank at the top beca with their ability to destroy free radicals. Blueberries also contain pterostilbene, an antioxidant that cuts precancerous colon lesions by 57% and kaempferol, a flavonoid which may decrease the risk of ovarian cancer by up to 40%. See more health benefits here.
  • Cinnamon: This warming spice has more to offer than its characteristic aroma and flavor. It’s been shown to have antioxidant and antimicrobial properties. It also plays a role in lowering blood glucose in diabetics.

This Spinach Berry Smoothie makes a great breakfast or post-workout meal! Enjoy!

Sometimes coconut milk is too heavy for me.
Please comment, Dr Jill, on A2 cow’s milk and how it fits into
the current thinking on healthy eating. I’ve learned that
all goat and sheep milk products are A 2.

      Hi Lynn
RO is a very good option, I just prefer the test and am not convinced the alkalized water is beneficial.
      warmly
